Vowels are especially tricky, so we concentrate on them repeatedly and it is paying off. With our writing exercises, I am seeing improvement and more automaticity evolving.
A recent activity involved writing about apples. Using an erasable flip chart, students dictated sentences about apples. We spelled the words together and edited when necessary as we wrote. When we had several sentences, students were given "story" paper and asked to choose several sentences from our chart to write. They then illustrated their writing. I have posted some of their products below.
